FAQ's

What is the average time commitment?

The time commitment for Michigan GSSA looks different for every member. All members are expected to attend our 1-hour long general meetings each week, alongside fulfilling their coffee chat and event requirements (which may vary in duration) each semester. Moreover, if you choose to join a committee within GSSA, additional time commitment may be introduced depending on your role.

Does GSSA have a membership fee?

Yes, all members of our chapter are expected to contribute a $50 fee toward our organization fund when they initially join, as well as a $35 fee each academic year that follows. These fees support the various educational and social events hosted throughout the year. We are committed to making sure that these fees do not prevent anyone from participating in our organization, and are more than happy to work with members should cost be a concern.

Do I need to be pre-med or pre-health to join?

No, you do not need to be pre-med or pre-health to join! Though GSSA is affiliated with the School of Public Health, we welcome students of all majors. Confronting inequities in global health and global surgery demands an interdisciplinary approach, and we encourage those with interest and passion to join! Check out our Homepage for a distribution of our members' declared majors.
